Wednesday 16th of March 2011 - Fish n Chips Run
Another beautiful Autumn evening; just another in a long line of them, saw a small but enthusiastic group of nine MX5’s all lined up at the usual meeting place,; the casino car park, for the monthly after work run. Barry and Lianna had the funniest looking MX5 of the night; it actually came with back seats, occupied by Lianna's Mum and Dad who were on holidays from Holland and great boot space (enough to fit all your camping equipment). While Barry attempted to save face by showing off his newly acquired and very impressive MX5 model the 4WD was not a substitute for the real thing. Notwithstanding it was great to meet Lianna's folks and have them join us on the cruise.
Slowly as the sun began to set the MX5’s just as slowly began ( yes we do listen to the Presidents advice about sticking to the speed limits) to wind their way through South Perth and along the West Coast Highway to our gastronomic destination at Hilary's Boat Harbour. Apart from musing about how wonderful it is not to have to commute through Perth traffic and briefly feeling sorry for those hardworking folk that were still doing so at 6:30 pm the ride was a reminder of how great an evening drive, roof down with the sun setting over the Indian Ocean in early autumn, really is.
Arriving at Hilary's Boat Harbour, one of the most popular northern coastal spots, we proceeded along the board walk to "Top Catch" for Fish and Chips. After commandeering a few tables we placed our orders and settled in with a glass or two of wine and watched the sea gulls, in competition with Howard, devour the leftovers from previous diners. With the evening's entertainment complete and in good company all present enjoyed a wonderful meal before heading home after yet another very enjoyable evening.
Many thanks to the organiser of this get together.
For the Trivia Buff's Fish and Chips is a popular take away food that originated in the UK around 1858. It consists of deep fried fish (traditionally cod or in Australia, flake, but sometimes haddock or plaice) covered in batter-or sometimes breadcrumbs-accompanied by deep fried chipped (slab-cut) potatoes. Popular tradition associates the dish with the United Kingdom and Ireland. The dish remains very popular in the UK and in areas colonized by British people in the mid-19th century.
