Sunday 5th of July 2015 - Country Cruise - Five Valley Dash Reprise

Back by popular demand, this long spirited drive through the Collie, Ferguson, Preston, Blackwood and Capel Valleys gives you the opportunity to spend some time on roads further afield. It is not a relaxed tour of the region with long lunches and coffee breaks; it is about the drive and the roads.

What is it like? the following Poem from Pat Gannon says it all:

It was early Sunday morning when they left the warmth of home
and they gathered in Pinjarra for some tucker at the Dôme.

An air of expectation hung over one and all
for the plans had all been laid and they waited for the call.

The start was down the South West, past Yarloop in a blink
and on through sleepy Harvey; it's later than you think

Foot hard on the pedal, as they plied up Mornington
then briefly down the highway, to the dam at Wellington.

A splash across the causeway to the gravel and the slush
a dip, a turn, a sudden climb, the 'one way' quite a rush!

Then headlong down to Ferguson, the fields a verdant green
‘til the sanctuary of St Aiden's, was welcome to be seen

A brief respite, a pause to chat and share the morning
Then on to wintery Donnybrook, for fuel and other needs.

No time to waste, they journey on to Upper Capel Road
through sleepy Kirup, Cundinup to Nannup town they flowed.

A proper stop, a time for talk and fuel for man and beast
the road ahead to Balingup, a sports car driver's feast.

And so the journey ebbed and flowed, through forests torn and bent,
Waroona's up the highway now, a welcome break well spent.

Through Nanga Brook and Dwellingup the spirits never flag
a highway dash, then Kingsbury Drive the last impressive drag.

And finally at Jarrahdale, they gather at the pub
to lie and drink and lie some more and celebrate our club.

We meet at the Dôme Café in Pinjarra 83 km south of Perth from 8 am onwards if you want to have brekkie at the Dôme, or in time for the 9 am departure if you are having yours beforehand.

From Pinjarra the 500 km drive along secondary roads takes us into the forests of the Geographe Bay hinterland, farmland, hills, vines, National Parks, State Forests and of course that magic bit of twisting blacktop along the Blackwood River with a stop at the Nannup Tavern for lunch.

We finish around 4:30 pm at the Jarrahdale Tavern some 60 km south of Perth to reflect on the days drive and share some stories before you make your own way home.

All in all you are looking at a total distance of some 645 km; a bit more if you hail from the northern suburbs and a bit less if you are a southerner.

Please RSVP by email to events@mx5club.com.au before 27 June so we can finalise the lunch booking at the Nannup Tavern and know who should be at the meeting point before we depart.
