Sunday 2nd of April 2017 - Country Cruise - Cunderdin

Terry and Christine Smith are taking us on a 450 km drive to Cunderdin, a small country town in the heart of the wheatbelt, which like many small towns in the area, developed as a stop off town during the gold rush in the WA Goldfields.

We have lunch at the Ettamogah Pub; a timber building featuring sloping walls, with a truck on the roof and the distinctive architectural style true to the original “design” from cartoonist Ken Maynard as featured in the now defunct Australasian Post magazine.

There will be time to explore the Cunderdin Museum ($5 entry per person) in the former No 3 Kalgoorlie Pipeline Steam Pumping Station - now full of information, memorabilia and photographs of its fascinating history. The Museum also boasts one of the best displays of farm equipment anywhere in the country.

We meet near the Muzz Buzz at the Midland Centrepoint Shopping Centre at 309 Great Eastern Highway, Midland (Click here to view a map) at 8:30 and depart 9 am sharp.

Leg 1 takes us to Toodyay for a quick regroup at Cola Cafe before we head to Cunderdin via Dowerin and Wyalkatchem on leg 2. After lunch we head to Beverley via Quairading where we stretch the legs before heading down Talbot Road West, driving through some attractive farming areas, to the 4 pm finish at the Mundaring Pub to compare notes.

Please RSVP by email to events@mx5club.com.au before 30 March so we can finalise the lunch booking at the Ettamogah Pub and know who should be at the meeting point before we depart.
