Leese, a brand new club member has kindly contributed the following report

Happy Easter and it’s race day. I headed out the door with anticipation - camera, hat, water, snacks and myself all into the car, top down and were off!

The weather was a superb 29 degrees with a light breeze, scattered clouds and plenty of sunshine for racing. I can’t tell you the final placings but I can tell you there were 23 cars racing, 1 BMW M3, 2 Lotus Elise and 20 MX-5s with five rounds completed by all.

We heard the driver briefing and the first five cars were lined up at the start gate. Cars would race and be timed in pairs. Starts were staggered by a 20 second gap for a pair. Where’s my camera? The cars lined up looked great, I tried to get shots of cars cornering on the last bend and as they launched off the start line.

Get Tech
The timing equipment provided a couple of problems with electronic beams not being broken, thereby not starting the time clock however they were ironed out quickly. Graeme Martin provided a temporary solution for himself by raising his hand high as he raced through the beam to ensure he broke the beam to get a time. Now that’s initiative!
There were some other technical gadgets too - on board cameras! I was impressed by this and am looking forward to seeing the action from these tiny tech marvels.

Spun-out!
There were several cars that spun out on a dusty thus slippery track. Combined with growing driver confidence and speed on the track we witnessed club President Simon spin out on the last race corner, dust went flying and tyres screeched. Ian Lewis spun out on the last corner at the end of the straight where speeds of 150km or more were achieved.
Josh spun out on the third last corner - commentary by Lianna - 'Josh must have seen something he wanted to have a closer look at'.

As a spectator the day was entertaining and fun. We even had four stray teenagers watching from afar for a time. I can attest our club has very hard working and dedicated club members who genuinely want everyone to enjoy these opportunities. I will definitely be at the next Sprint Series (6th June) if only to experience Lianna’s commentary humour.

I can’t wait to do some driver training before I actually attempt to race on a track. A ladies team would make things interesting no?
