4th of July, US Independence day, a good reason to have a look at some Fords! This month’s cruise is to the Bailup Farm Ford collection of Tony Pernechele, who has been building a spectacular display of motoring history and horsepower at his Gidgegannup property since 2003. There are big Fords, old Fords, older Fords, powerful Fords, rare Fords and elegant Fords. There are manuals, toy models, numberplates, signs, hub caps, tools and engines.
His Ford connection was honed during his time at Newcastle Motors and Lynas Motors. He would work as an apprentice by day and after-hours would show the mechanics a thing or two at his home workshop. He later ran a string of auto wrecking yards. Tony started collecting Fords in the 70s.
There are a few extra special cars, the 1926 Model T is one. It was once an RAC vehicle in Bunbury. There's a 1971 Mustang which he accepted as a deposit in a business deal. And a 1960 XK Falcon which he saw pull up in Mandurah. He made an offer, which was turned down. Years later he had a call from the owner's widow, who said her husband had told her the car should go to the museum. One of his favourites is a 1948 V8 Pilot, bought from a restorer. There are a full set of Falcon GTs, stretching back to 1967.
He now has more than 70 vehicles and for a $5 donation, which goes to Princess Margaret Hospital, we can immerse ourselves in his collection. Tony has many stories about where they came from and why he loves them.
There are 2 BBQ’s available on site for lunch (BYO Food / Chair / Drinks), as are soft drinks at a $1 a can with proceeds going to Princess Margaret Hospital.
We meet at Burswood at 9:30 for a 10 AM departure on a 115 km Cruise along some nice twisty roads to Bailup Farm, which is ~ 55 km from Perth.
