Visit to UWA Motorsport

Back in August '06 the MX-5 Club visited UWA Motorsport to have a look at the Formula SEA cars and talk to the students who involved in the project. With the car we say under construction the UWA Motorsport Team won the 2007 Australasian Formula SAE Championships. This entitled them to compete in the FISITA Formula SAE World Cup at the Michigan International Speedway where the 12-strong team, all UWA engineering students, edged out more than 100 other teams, won the international competition for a student designed race car and became the 2008 Formula SAE World Champions.

The team is run and managed by students, with two academic supervisors. Cars are built in a year by a team of up to 60 students, so we went along and have a look at the winning car and their latest incarnation for the 2009 season.
