COMING EVENT
Sunday 1st of March 2020 - Motorsport Series 11 Admin Page
This is the Administration Page for Series 11 of the Mazda MX-5 Club of Western Australia Inc. Motorsport Championship.
**************************************
This page always carries the most uptodate information applying to Series 11 and should be treated as the definitive source.
This page will be continually updated and added to until the first round of the series is ready to run. From that point on all information, for each round, will be posted on the event page for the particular round.
**************************************
Bookings for the Motorplex have been secured.
We again have a 10 round series, 2 rounds at each venue, with championship points counting for your best score at each venue. The series will run from early March through to mid December. Due to the high number of competitors three extra events have been inserted to cater for the number running at venues where only on competitor can be on the track at a time.
Classes
Overview
Classing competition vehicles is complex due to the enormous number of variables.
In most competitions, to limit the number of classes, organisers find the only way to group cars is by their engine capacity. This mostly means the people that spend the most will end up on the podium if they have better than average driving technique. As a marque specific club this is exactly what we do not want. What we want is for our club members to come and actually complete in their car with no additional expenditure necessary at all, while encouraging the more committed competitors to develop their cars and also have a close and fair competition. Our club now has 10 years of worth of competition data we have formulated a close and fair competition with only 4 classes.
Classes A and B are for daily drives.
Classes C and D are for performance cars.
Class A is nominally a <=1800cc class.
Class B is nominally a <=2000cc class.
Class C is nominally a <=3000cc class.
Class D is nominally a >3000cc class
The capacity factor for forced induction is 1.7
Really Class D should be <= 4000cc, but we have the V8 engine swapped cars at around 6 litres. In this series there is only 2 of them. A class needs a minimum of 4 regulars to have proper competition so they are staying in Class D. More than doubling the engine capacity at the top end of a competition such as ours doesn’t give the advantage that you might expect. Our events are designed for OEM MX-5s. Much more about braking and turns than straight line speed. In fact because many of our competitors have open topped cars with no roll bar, our permit only allows speeds up to 140kph, so courses are designed to naturally achieve this. The V8 drivers still have to be very good to win.
This sums up the basis on which our classes are developed. Each class contains vehicles that are able to compete with each other. Below is the criteria that separates the classes. Classing is only concerned with the car. Driver ability is not a factor.
For all classes.
A statutory declaration for compliance with the class being entered is mandatory.

Championship points.
At each round each class will get awarded points - 15 for first, 13 for second, 11 for third etc. down to 1 and then 1 point for each competitor after that.
To have points awarded the competitor must complete at least one penalty free run.
Our club motorsport championship is a fully fledged serious motorsport competition. The events are run under AASA National Competition Rules V2.8 October 2019 plus supplementary regulations for each event.
We now have a championship event management team to ensure the integrity of the competition and that the rules and regulations are strictly adhered to. Safety, Fairness and Fun are our priorities.
