PAST EVENT

Sunday 16th of September 2018 - Charity Run - RSVP Event

The MX5 Club of WA has decided to add a special charity event to our 2018 calendar.

We meet in the Burswood Car Park between Bolton Avenue, Glenn Place, Victoria Park Drive and Great Eastern Highway (Click here to view a map) at 9.30 for a 10am start. The drive will take us through the hills and then back to Carol and Don's house at 21 Faulkner Avenue Belmont for lunch around 12-12.30

RSVP by Friday 14th so Carol can arrange the catering. Anyone with dietary concerns please let Carol know when RSVPing. Please BYO drinks.

In return for your delicious lunch, club members are asked to donate a couple of things on The Movement Perth's "WANTED LIST. These are the items that they usually struggle to get - rice, pasta, toilet paper, baked beans, long life milk, 2 minute noodles, sausages, mince, margarine, tomato sauce, pies, packet or tinned soup, stock cubes, cheese or cheese slices, cake mix, tinned tuna, pasta sauce. The Movement Perth is not brand conscious. They would rather have 2 or 3 packets of black and gold brand than 1 packet of brand label as this means that they can help more people. They can also breakdown a bigger packet into smaller bags so as to get better value.

Alternatively, club members can make a cash donation on the day which The Movement Perth will use to buy items on the "WANTED LIST".

People can either give Carol the food donations (or money) at the briefing or bring them along to the lunch.

WHAT 'THE MOVEMENT PERTH' DOES

'The Movement' is a charity that works Australia wide and also in New Zealand. Carol is part of the Perth chapter.

They collect food from organisations that would otherwise throw it out at the end of the day - places like supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants etc., and they then redistribute it to the homeless and disadvantaged. They also have a number of generous organisations that will cook a little extra and pass it on, and they receive food through members of the community who cook up a couple of extra soups or meals and drop them off.

The Movement Perth has administration and distribution sites in Belmont, Thornlie, Kelmscott, Beckenham, Wellard, Kardinya, Golden Bay, Noranda and Heathridge. People in need can go to a distribution site and pickup food. The Movement Perth also makes food runs on Saturday and Tuesday nights to feed the homeless in Fremantle.

In addition to food, they also provide clothing, homewares and other necessities. They encourage a Pay it Forward attitude whereby people drop off items that they no longer need whilst picking up something that they do need.

Whilst The Movement Perth can source fruit and veggies and bread reasonably easy there are a number of items on their "WANTED LIST" that they don't usually get donated and they have to fundraise to buy. Hence, the aim of the September MX5 charity run is to raise funds to buy items on the "WANTED LIST" and/or obtain direct donations of the wanted items.
