Wednesday 26th of May 2021 - Midweek Lunchtime - Dog's Eye with Dead Horse

Join us at 10:00 am on Wednesday 26th May a 130km midweek lunchtime cruise led by Michael Clowes to sample a quintessential Aussie culinary delight the “Dogs Eye” with “Dead Horse” aka Pie with Sauce.

There’s nothing like stumbling into a warm and welcoming little country bakery on a wintery day, only to taste their assorted home made pies or stacked chicken and salad rolls and realise you’ve hit the jackpot. It’s rare to meet someone who doesn’t claim to know of ‘the best’ place to stop for a meat pie or a sausage roll on a road trip. Whilst almost every bakery which sell meat pies wants you to know that they have been at some time been rated best meat pie or could hold their own against winners. We strung together 3 excellent bakeries for you to judge for yourselves.

This scenic back road cruise takes the group along a range of relatively empty back roads heading from classic bakery to classic bakery with a short stop in between at another classic bakery.Don’t feel compelled to eat pies at each bakery, there is always a coffee and other goodies as well, even ice creams at the Gidgegannup Bakery.

We meet at the award winning Pinjarra Bakery at their nearby Maddington location at 10 am for a 10:30 depart. (1871 Albany Highway, Maddington, 6109) [Google Maps] .

We depart at 10:30 for a 75 km run through Pickering Brook and Mundaring for a first stop at the Gidgegannup Bakery and Cafe.

From there we head North for a short jaunt of 54 km along O’Briens Rd before heading down to the Artisan Mundaring Bakery Cafe for Lunch. There we can compare notes and perhaps make a new list of the best pie shops to visit next time.

The run is an all weather run with plenty of seating inside.

We hope you enjoy the driving but also equally enjoy socialising in the company of other MX5ers.
