Sunday 3rd of September 2023 -  Monthly Cruise - Waterfalls & Wildflowers

It’s the time of year when the wildflowers are blooming and the waterfalls are flowing!

Neil Harris leads us on a 105 km cruise that aims to explore both; apart from driving this full day cruise also involves a fair bit of walking so you will need to bring water, good walking shoes and maybe an umbrella.

We meet at the Bell’s Rapids Foot Bridge over the white water rapids in the Swan River. It’s a short walk from the car park at the very end of Orlov Trail, Brigadoon (click here to view a map) at 9am for a 9:30am departure. Get there a bit earlier of want to have a look around.

Our first stop is the FR Berry Reserve for a 1 hour / 2.7 km return walk to the waterfall with plenty of wildflowers to see along the way, you may even spot a Vanilla Sun Orchid.

Next, its time to warm up over lunch next to the open fire at the Mounties aka The Mount Helena Tavern.

After lunch we continue to Lesmurdie Falls, the largest and most epic of all the waterfalls in Perth were we walk the 20 minute/800m return to the lookout platform with stunning views over the Swan Coastal Plains.

Last stop is the Ellis Brook Valley, recognised as the richest wildflower location in the Perth Metro Area. It has over 500 species of wildflowers in a beautiful hidden valley. The 1 hour/2 km loop trail climbs to the top of the spectacular Sixty Foot Falls. Views from the top are spectacular – and are earned, as the last stages of the climb are rather steep. But even half way is pretty good!
